Field: Country Code for Abroad Cases
Description
State Pension (SP) can be claimed by people living abroad. The data records where the recipient was resident on the day of the data collection. Countries identified with an asterisk (*) are those for which SP recipients will receive annual uprating to their pensions ('not frozen'); those which do not have an asterisk are those where SP is not uprated ('frozen').
UK State Pensions are payable worldwide and are uprated abroad where there is a legal requirement to do so, for example in the European Economic Area and countries where we have a reciprocal agreement that allows for uprating.
People wishing to interrogate the data relating to an individual country or group of countries would be best served by using the full Country field and selecting the country(s) of interest.
People wishing to interrogate the data as it relates to overseas frozen and not frozen pensions would be best served by using the Country Summary field. The classifications available are:
Note SP paid in The Channel Islands is not frozen.
